CAMPERS BEGIN TO STIR as morning light hits the cliffs to the northwest of Bass Rapids on Day 2 of our 1978 trip. Waking up, many in our group could scarcely walk, our quadriceps were so tight and sore from the previous day’s rim-to-river descent. And we had a long day ahead on the trail — all the way to Garnet Canyon.
