THE DAY AFTER all the commotion, we head down Boucher Creek to spend some time at the Colorado River. It had been decided the day before, when Stan was about to be flown out, that we'd take this rest day before spending the following two days climbing out, cutting the trip short by one day. It's an easy, 1.7-mile walk to the river from camp —
everything seems pretty easy without a backpack. But the heat is still noticeable, with temperatures in the middle to upper 80s.
